Situated 14 miles north of Boston, Nahant is a charming town replete with rocky coasts in the southern section of Essex County. Similar to other coastal communities, Nahant once was a maritime community with many fishermen. Soon it quickly became a resort area with visitors vacationing in the boarding houses, private homes and eventually hotels. By the mid 1800’s Nahant was fast transforming into a summer getaway for Boston’s wealthier residents.
By the time the 1900’s arrived the trend for building resorts and hotels had made more of a glidepath towards more full time or semi-permanent residences. Developers and construction firms started building hundreds of summer homes for visitors over the period of a few decades. Today, Nahant still remains primarily a residential community where you will find a collection of both summer and year-round residents.
